Carl D. Perkins Grant

The Carl D. Perkins Grant is a federal award from the US Department of Education to the state of Louisiana to assist Career and Technical Education (CTE). Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) receives the funds and then allocates funding to various schools within the system based on the number of CTE programs and number of students enrolled in CTE programs.

The Carl D. Perkins Grant is designed to help students in secondary and postsecondary education more fully develop the academic and technical skills required by high skill, high wage, and high demand occupations in current and emerging professions. More specifically, it does so by providing funds for faculty and staff professional development, travel, program evaluation and development as well as new equipment and supplies.

While the Carl D. Perkins Grant award year runs from July 1st through June 30th, CTE program requests for funding are available in the Spring semester, usually late March and early April for submissions to be accepted by the Carl D. Perkins Representative - Region 8. Those submissions are incorporated into a final grant proposal (Local Application Plan) by the Perkins Representative and submitted in early May to LCTCS.
