Mission
The Medical Assistant Program will prepare graduates for entry level employment who possess the knowledge and skills to perform safe and ethical patient care in their communities. The knowledge gained will serve as the foundation for further development of technical skills and understanding of the overall health context in which our graduates will perform.
Program Description
This program prepares students for employment in private and large group physician’ offices, clinics, hospitals, medical records, laboratories and/or insurance companies. Supervised and/or preceptor based clinical externships are included. Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification exam for Medical Assistants.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Louisiana Delta Community College Medical Assistant program will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate skills required to function as a member of the healthcare team as identified by Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
- Explain how the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance regulation impacts workers in the healthcare industry.
- Implement safety practices to reduce the risk of infection from medical biohazards in compliance with state and federal standards and regulations.
- Identify concepts of professionalism and ethical conduct in the workplace.
