Mission

The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies program offers students an opportunity to earn an associate degree in areas in which the college does not offer specialized degree programs.  The AAS-Technical Studies degree will allow students who earn a technical diploma (TD) to pursue an associate degree after they complete the technical coursework in specialized areas. Often, companies that employ skilled technicians require an associate degree for supervisory positions.  Current and former LDCC students who wish to pursue supervisory positions will likely need, at a minimum, an associate degree to meet eligibility.

Program Description

The AAS Technical Studies program offers students opportunity to earn an associate degree in specialized Career and Technical Education programs that do not terminate at the associate-degree level.  Students who earn a Technical Diploma in specialized areas can complete eighteen hours of general education courses in the following discipline areas:  Computer Literacy, English Composition, Mathematics, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences.

Technical concentration areas eligible for the AAS Technical Studies program include:

  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (Residential and Commercial)
  • Automotive Technology
  • Barber Styling
  • Diesel Powered Equipment Technology
  • Electrician (Commercial and Industrial)

The program is not designed for transfer.  It is designed to prepare students for immediate employment opportunities and supervisory positions.
