Gateway English and Math Co-requisite Support and Exemption Criteria

Louisiana Delta Community College is committed to students' success in the foundational gateway areas of English Composition and core Mathematics. LDCC is an open-admission institute of higher education and does not employ traditional developmental or remedial course(s) as pre-requisites to students' enrollment in gateway English and Math courses. Instead, all students may enroll in the English and Math gateway courses specific to the declared program of study. Students enrolled in these gateway courses are concurrently enrolled in a subject-specific support course unless they meet the criteria for exemption.

Students pursuing the gateway ENGL 101 English Composition I are exempt from concurrent enrollment in ENGL 100 College Writing Success if the following proficiency standards are satisfied: ACT English subscore 18 and greater; SAT English subscore 500 and greater; Accuplacer Next-Generation (NG) Writing score 250 and greater.

Students pursuing the gateway core Mathematics course specific to the declared program of study are exempt from concurrent enrollment in MATH 100 College Algebra Success if the following proficiency standards are satisfied: ACT Math subscore 19 and greater; SAT Math subscore 510 and greater; Accuplacer Next-Generation (NG) Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QRAS) score 250 and greater.

Credit Based on ACT/SAT Scores

College credit will be awarded to students who earn appropriate scores on the ACT/SAT in English and Math.

Credit will be awarded for English 101 to students who meet the following minimum criteria for ACT or SAT scores earned in a single test:

  • An ACT English score of 28 or above and an ACT Composite score of 25
  • An SAT Verbal score of 630 plus a combined SAT Verbal and SAT Math total score of 1130

Credit will be awarded for Math 110 to students who meet the following minimum criteria for ACT or SAT scores earned in a single test:

  • An ACT Math score of 26 or higher
  • An SAT Math score of 600 or higher

Credit is awarded only for official scores sent directly to LDCC from the testing company.

Practical Nursing TD Required Scores for PN Entry

 

***Scores must be within the last three years.***

Students may attempt the Accuplacer Next Gen/ACT a total of three times within three years to achieve these entry scores.  Successive attempts must be separated by at least 5 days. After three attempts, the student MUST see the Adult Education department for remedial coursework.  Upon completion of the coursework, the student may be allowed one additional attempt (total of 4 attempts) at achieving the necessary Accuplacer Next Gen/ACT scores.  The Adult Education department may provide documentation of completion for the student to present at the testing center for the fourth attempt. Additional attempts must be approved by the PN Coordinator at the campus of desired enrollment, the Dean of Allied Health, or the Dean of Enrollment Services.
