Late-Start Classes

Late-Start Classes (Parts of Term) and How They Affect Federal Pell Grants

The payment of federal Pell grant funds is governed by regulations from the Department of Education. Students who are in programs of study that require courses that are delivered in parts of terms will receive federal Pell funds once they begin attendance for each part of term.

Late-Start Classes are classes that begin after the starting date of a fall, spring, or summer semester. If you are enrolled in late-start classes, your financial aid may not disburse until classes begin. Dropping a late starting or short term class within the 100% refund period, not attending or having a class cancelled may result in a reduction of your financial aid.

Students are eligible for Pell and Loan payments based on actual start dates for individual classes rather than the starting date of fall, spring, or summer semesters. On the 15th day of the semester, your schedule will be evaluated; only the credit classes for which you have begun attendance will be utilized to calculate your Pell amount. When another late-start class begins, another cycle will be processed to see how many credit hours you have started since the last payment, and so on.

Payments will first be used to pay for the tuition, fees, and books you have charged to the campus. After all charges have been reimbursed, any remaining funds will be sent to you, the student, as you begin other parts of term. This process will trigger direct receipt of funds by students later in the term.

This means that if you have classes that start after the first fourteen days of class, your financial aid will not be disbursed for those classes until the after the date those classes begin. Your attendance in these classes affects your eligibility.

Please review your schedule in LoLA Self-Service to determine when your classes actually begin. Your eligibility for payments will begin on the first day of each class as it is listed on your schedule in Self-Service, however, this does not mean that you will receive funds that day.

If you have questions regarding this information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid on your campus.
